Considering his usual style of play falls directly into the ‘Route One’ category, you might have reservations about that, but one thing most people will get behind is the names being rumoured to be getting a clean slate under Big Sam’s reign.
The likes of Danny Drinkwater, Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe and Andros Townsend are all set to be recalled when England’s World Cup qualifying campaign gets underway in September.
GettyMany expected Drinkwater to make the Euro 2016 squad, only for Roy Hodgson to ditch him in favour of Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson.
Having worked with Defoe and Carroll in the past, Allardyce may recall the pair of strikers when he names his first England squad – against Croatia on September 1.
Carroll in particular should find his way into the squad fairly easily, as he fits Allardyce’s style of play perfectly.
GettyMark Noble is another who may find a route into the national squad for the first time in his career, while James Tomkins is also a potential call-up, after Big Sam talked glowingly about him in the past.
Rumour has it that Ivan Campo, Youri Djorkaeff, Fernando Hierro and Jay-Jay Okocha have all applied for British citizenship, in the hope of helping out their former Bolton Wanderers manager.
Sammy Lee has joined as Allardyce’s assistant coach, so the Big Sam/Little Sam partnership is back together in the biggest job in England.
