In news that probably won’t shock too many fight fans, CM Punk’s UFC debut has been delayed yet again.
Punk, aka. Phil Brooks, has revealed to MMA Fighting that he is set to undergo surgery after a long term back injury became too serious to fight through.
The injury will no doubt have devastated Punk as much as it has disappointed fans who only learned on Saturday that he would face Mickey Gall in his Octagon bow, after Gall defeated Mike Jackson via a first-round rear-naked choke in just 45 seconds.
With an estimated recovery time of four to six weeks, we should still hopefully see Punk in action before the end of 2016.
Punk told MMA Fighting:
My back has always bugged me. Figured it was just wrestling sh*t. Turns out it was.
It got bad enough to the point where I couldn’t do anything the week before I went to train with the New Jersey Devils last month. One day I could manage, the next day I couldn’t. I’ve been in agony for almost a month. Chiropractor, acupuncture, massage, cryotherapy – nothing worked.
This is just a bump in the road. I’m positive about this.
Well, I’m glad you are Punk. I’m glad you are…
