During a rather heated press tour, Conor McGregor spent most of his time taking shots at Floyd Mayweather determined to get a reaction.

The UFC Champion accused Mayweather of being broke, not being able to read and even called him ‘boy’ on a couple of occasions.

However, there was only one which managed to get under the skin of the undefeated welterweight boxer.

During an interview with ESPN’s Stephen A.Smith, Mayweather revealed it was a seemingly racist comment that made him angry, saying:

I just didn’t like when he called us monkeys. I think that was totally disrespect. I didn’t like it. It didn’t push a button to make me jump out of character and go crazy, but I didn’t like it.

I just thought about all of our different leaders, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, that went on the front line for me and my family and all my loved ones.

This stuff still goes on, but I’m strong, smart, patient, and come August 26, I’ll be the same person.

The same way he called us monkeys, we’re going to see if he says that August 26.

During an interview with Guillermo for Jimmy Kimmel Live, McGregor referred to the black boxers in Rocky III as ‘dancing monkeys’, a comment which saw him labelled as being racist.

Not only did this remark make Mayweather mad, but it also made the fight even more important to him.

Mayweather continued:

This is for a cause. This is for the American people. This is for all the blacks around the world.
