CEN/PexelsAn amateur footballer has died from a heart attack after drinking an ice cold glass of water.
Ludwin Flores Nole, 27, collapsed shortly after he downed the water upon finishing a match with his local side Los Rangers in Sullana Province, north west Peru.
Drinking the water triggered a rare cardiovascular reflex that caused the the 27-year-old to feel unwell, before he began having chest pains and collapsed.
CENLudwin had just finished playing the match when he began to feel unwell, after which he went home. After complaining of feeling unwell, his wife took him to a nearby clinic but he tragically died on the way.
Shortly after he drank the glass of water, his wife said:
He started to have chest pains so I took him to a nearby clinic, but he died on the way. The doctor told me that he suffered a heart attack because he drank too much cold water while his body was still hot.
Doctors believe the cold water may have caused a sudden change in his heart rate, triggering the cardiovascular reflex. The condition is considered rare when brought on by drinking a cool liquid.
CENJust last week, Real Madrid star and Porto football legend Iker Casillas was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper was taken to Hospital CUF in Porto last Wednesday (May 1) after suffering a heart attack during training. He then underwent emergency surgery, with reports shortly afterward confirming he was believed to be ‘out of danger’.
After the traumatic ordeal, Casillas is expected to be ruled out for a least the rest of the current season. As reported by the BBC, Spain’s greatest goalie was discharged from hospital on Monday (May 6), and said he ‘does not know what the future will be’.
Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, the legendary goalkeeper said he would rest for a couple of weeks or a couple of months, but ‘the most important thing is to be here’.
Casillas said:
A few days ago I went through a difficult situation, something that can happen at any moment of life, but fortunately I’m fine. I am grateful and feel that I am very lucky.
Thank you to all who cared, for I felt very dear and cherished. I can only get out of this situation with a smile.
