GettyThe wrestling world is still coming to the terms with the untimely death of WWE superstar Chyna on Wednesday.
But according to the New York Daily News, a plan is already underway to have her brain donated for scientific research after Chyna – real name Joanie Laurer – was found dead in her home by manager, Anthony Anzaldo, on April 20th.
Anzaldo revealed that Chyna had been contacted to join a concussion lawsuit against WWE by other former professional wrestlers.
APDespite the fact that they didn’t want to pursue the case, they were still interested in investigating the effects a career in wrestling can have on the brain.
Speaking to New York Daily News, Anzaldo said:
My hope is that we can do it. I’m in the process of getting the permission to speak on behalf of family to tell the coroner it’s okay to release it. We’re not interested in the lawsuit at all. We’re just looking for (the researchers) to give us everything they can get.
GettyThe research will include Dr. Bennet Omalu, the guy who discovered Central Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and is trying to raise awareness of the affliction.
Pro wrestlers including Mick Foley, Kevin Nash and Jeff Hardy have already confirmed that they will also be donating their brains to science when they pass and John Cena says that if it would benefit concussion research he would also be interested.
Former wrestler Chris Benoit is probably the most famous instance of an athlete suffering from CTE.
Anzaldo now hopes to capture the results of the testing if it goes ahead for The Reconstruction of Chyna, a documentary they had been filming before her death.
