Goalkeeper Dies After Colliding With Teammate During Match

A legendary goalkeeper has died after accidentally colliding with a teammate during a live football match.

38-year-old Choirul Huda was pronounced dead after suffering head and neck trauma following a collision with teammate Ramon Rodrigues.

Both Mr Huda and Mr Rodrigues were playing for Persela against Semen Padang in the Indonesia Super League.

The accident occurred following the first 40 minutes during injury time when Huda ran out of his penalty box to collect the ball and collided with Mr Rodrigues and a rival player.

After the collision Huda was in obvious pain and medics immediately rushed onto the pitch to help him and he was given emergency treatment on the side of the pitch.

When it became apparent he was seriously injured he taken to the Regional General Hospital in Lamongan but Huda was declared dead at 5.15pm.

He was just brought to the hospital still breathing, but was lifeless at around 17:00.

Through our analysis was due to collision in the head and neck of the back.

Aji Santoso the Persela manager confirmed after the game that Huda had died and that all of the team went to the hospital after the game to pay their respects to their fallen teammate.

Persela said today on Twitter: ‘RIP Huda. Goodbye Choirul Huda the real legend of Persela.’

Huda debuted in 1999 and played in over 500 games in his 18-year career and was also a civil servant.He was considered one of the best goalkeepers in Indonesia.

Persela defeated Semen Padang 2-0 at the Surajaya Stadium.
