Josh Herdman’s no doubt used to throwing punches in his alter-ego as a wizarding bully and aspiring dark wizard, but now he’s had a strange change in career.

Yes the budding Death Eater, Herdman, who’s perhaps best known as Draco Malfoy’s trusted if incompetent mate Gregory Goyle, made his amateur début as an MMA fighter this weekend.

Herdman’s clearly been working hard to get in shape as a fighter, managing to beat Polish opponent Janusz Walachowski at the City Pavillion in Romford, east London, The Mirror reports.

Talking about his experience, he said:

I’ve been training traditional Japanese jujitsu for nearly five years and hold a shodan black belt.

It’s raw, exciting and unpredictable. I find it more interesting than boxing although I appreciate the beauty and art in boxing. It also made sense to move onto MMA because of my jujitsu training.

That said though, the star admits he’s not given up on acting, even though he compares it to ‘playing the lottery’

Josh, 28, from London, said that he hadn’t ‘fallen out of love with [acting]’, and that he still regularly auditions before adding: “I don’t see it so much as a career change, I am passionate about both acting and fighting.”

It’s been an exciting year for Harry Potter fans with new spin-offs on the way including a play, The Cursed Child, and a whole trilogy of movies, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Who knows maybe the next bit Potter thing could be MMMA (Magical Mixed Martial Arts)? Two wizards go in, one comes out, no wand action below the belt…
