Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason was reportedly ‘fighting for his life’ in hospital after a horror head clash with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill in a Premier League fixture earlier today.

The former Tottenham man immediately fell to the ground and did not get back up as he had to be stretchered off the pitch.

He was immediately taken to hospital where The Mirror claimed he was undergoing emergency surgery to repair a fracture to his skull. It had been thought there was bleeding onto his brain but Hull City have since quashed those rumours and it is believed he is stable in hospital.

The football community has since come together to send their best wishes to Mason as everybody prays he makes a full recovery.

Hull City released the following statement following the incident:

The Club can confirm that Ryan Mason sustained a skull fracture in our fixture at Chelsea this afternoon.

He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital where he has undergone surgery.
Ryan is in a stable condition and is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days.
Everyone at the Club would like to express their sincere thanks for the excellent and swift care given to Ryan by both the Accident and Emergency department and Neurosurgery Unit at St Mary’s Hospital.
A further update will be issued tomorrow.

We can only hope it isn’t as serious as first feared.

Our thoughts, along with the entire football community, are with Ryan Mason.
