From the heady days of this summer’s national heartbreak of football very nearly coming home to a winter night’s must win Champions League match at Anfield, there’s always a reason for the old adverb: football, bloody ‘ell.

And it’s to Liverpool’s crucial final group match last night at Anfield where we turn our attention and the incredible scenes, on and off the pitch, that make us love the game just a little bit more.

With Group C on a knife-edge going into the final round of matches, Liverpool needed to defeat top of the table Napoli for any chance of progressing to the knock out phase of the Champions League.

But as Mohamed Salah got back into the groove of being Mohamed Salah after a relatively quiet start to the season – based on last year’s perfect approach to being Mohamed Salah – it was a scene in the stands that got people talking after the Egyptian’s 34th minute winner.

A video posted to social media of a visually impaired Liverpool fan celebrating as a relative describes the action to him is melting hearts of fans of all teams.

In the vid, Liverpool fans can be seen celebrating Salah’s goal before it focuses on the fan. He’s seen beaming with a smile as his cousin explains what’s just happened on the pitch.

The tweet was captioned:

This blind fan celebrating Salah’s goal after his friend tells him about the play is amazing!

The beautiful game

Since being posted this afternoon the tweet has clocked up over 7K retweets, 30K likes and a shed load of GIF replies sharing the love.

Mike Kearney, the visually impaired fan at the centre of the action, replied to the tweet:

Nice to read all comments about the video. It’s my cousin telling me it was mo who scored. I can see a little bit but not great. Didn’t know the camera got us thanks for posting

Twitter user Cheryl posted:

That’s special. I’m a blue and I’m in tears over that

Meanwhile fellow Evertonian Dave tweeted:

Sometimes in football things happen to reaffirm your faith in humanity! This is one of them

And me, well, I’m a United fan and even my cockles have been warmed well and truly by this Liverpool fan tale.

Football, bloody ‘ell.
