Rule number one of being a player under Louis van Gaal. Pay attention to the manager.
Not only did the Dutchman outline that in a great (if slightly alcohol induced) manner during the Player Of The Season awards, he has reinforced it in the best managerial press conference since Rafa Benitez and his ‘facts’ rant.
In fact (sorry Rafa) the then Liverpool boss ended up looking like an idiot, while Van Gaal managed to win the internet. Again.
Without further ado, here is how the internet reacted to his press conference during Manchester United’s pre-season tour.
If you want to play in defence, you have to defend. Who knew…
van Gaal asked why buy Darmian over Rafael: "MD a player who could defend on the 1st phase because right fullback you have to defend." Ouch.

LVG pretty much telling the world that he doesn’t think Rafael can defend.
— Tom Coast (@thcoast) July 15, 2015
Why Darmian? 'Because he can defend' Ok so we know what Van Gaal thinks of Rafael. Also said Darmian has good orientation & can see free man

Oh, and if you want to play at all, never refuse to feature for the reserves…
LvG damning in comments about Rafael and in particular Valdes. One can't defend and the other has a poor attitude. 'Listen to the manager'

#mufc to sell Victor Valdes because "he doesn't follow my philosophy. There's no place for someone like that," says Louis van Gaal.
— BBC Sport (@BBCSport) July 15, 2015
Moyes would've took Valdes on tour and probably rubbed his feet.

Buying and selling players is a process you know…
Louis van Gaal on Romero, "I can't answer that because it is a process." #MUFC
— Manchester United (@ManUtdUpdates_) July 15, 2015
Van Gaal refuses to confirm Di Maria will stay "It's not clear… It's a process, we shall see."
— Sport Witness (@Sport_Witness) July 15, 2015
Van Gaal's wife tonight: "Do you want to have sex?"
"I can't answer that because it's a process."— Grace Lee (@grace11_8) July 15, 2015
Even the press didn’t escape from his wrath…
Louis van Gaal (points at a journalist): "He is always writing rubbish!"
— Premier League Stuff (@EPLStuff) July 15, 2015
He's just turned to one of them and said "you invent stories, you invent stories, but okay, it's not my problem."

#LVG firing shots again…everybody duck #MUFC

Louis van Gaal: "I say to the (new) players, you have to fight for your position, no position is secure. Even mine!" #mufc
— Barney @Red News (@barneyrednews) July 15, 2015
And that was LVG sober. Amazing stuff.
