It has been the saga of the summer, and now, with one day left until the transfer window closes, it seems David De Gea will finally be leaving Manchester United.
The goalkeeper looks like being on his way to Madrid, with cash and Keylor Navas going in the opposite direction.
After the goalie was frozen out by manager Louis van Gaal, it became pretty clear he would be leaving, but United fans still held out hope they could keep him – until it emerged negotiations with Real Madrid were nearly complete, a fee had been agreed, and De Gea would be leaving after all.
Here is how the internet reacted.
Jorge Mendes is a popular guy…
Jorge Mendes helped Manchester United to signed Anthony Martial & now he asks the club to let go of De Gea. [cope]

People are not happy…
#MUFC clearly decided it was best to wait until the last minute to sell David De Gea, thus leaving no time to replace him. #Shrewd

Woodward flies to Spain:
United fans: He's going to get De Gea a new girlfriend.Lol. He went to sell your best player to Madrid for £20m.

Not sure what the last three weeks of dropping De Gea from the squad has achieved. Just delayed the inevitable.

One thing that doesn't make sense though, we could have sold De Gea weeks ago & had longer to find a sufficient replacement without rushing.

Real Madrid apparently paying £20 million for David De Gea.. Idiots! Could get half of Anthony Martial for that!

Not anymore…
Now with Chicharito's departure, only De Gea & Powell are left at the club who started the game against MK Dons on Aug 26, 2014. Rest sold!

Oh, and given Keylor Navas seems to be going the other way, United fans might want to take note of this…
Believe it or not, a staggering 73% of @realmadrid fans don't even want David de Gea! #FanVoice #RealMadrid #MUFC pic.twitter.com/80hIEYmB15
