After what seems like an eternity, Liverpool have finally ended their pursuit of Mario Gotze.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has long been linked with the Reds and former manager Jurgen Klopp, and Liverpool fans have been dreaming of bringing the World Cup winner to Anfield, in the hope that it’ll finally be their year.

However, despite Gotze now keen on a move away from Munich, the Anfield outfit will not be making a move for the 24-year-old, as the former Borussia Dortmund boss is happy with his attacking options.

Before Euro 2016, the midfielder was happy to stay at Bayern and see out the last year of his contract, but after struggling for form through the tournament, has now reconsidered.

Liverpool kept up their annual Southampton shopping spree with the signing of Sadio Mane recently, and that seems to be the only attacking midfielder that Klopp is looking to bring in this window.

The Reds have Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, Sheyi Ojo and the returning Lazar Markovic to choose from, so there’s no great need for Gotze – we can’t have James Milner losing his place can we?

Klopp is expected to sell Christian Benteke this summer, with the Belgian striker closing in on a move to Crystal Palace for around £30m, which gets even more hilarious the more you think about it.

Should Gotze insist on leaving the reigning Bundesliga champions, a return to Dortmund is a possibility, with Thomas Tuchel interested in a reunion as BVB rebuild after another summer of losing star players.

However, Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on the player, and are now thought to be favourites to sign him, which would certainly be an interesting one when the north London side face Liverpool next season.
