Liverpool are through to the Europa League quarter finals, after knocking out Manchester United in the last 16.
Anthony Martial’s penalty had Louis van Gaal’s side on the verge of a comeback, but a stunning chip by Philippe Coutinho on the stroke of half time gave Liverpool the all important away goal.
As you’d expect, social media showed no mercy towards Louis van Gaal’s side.
Here’s the best of the reaction:
The neutrals were having a problem choosing sides:
You know when you hate Manchester United and scousers so this is a lose lose situation

Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal’s midfield pairing wasn’t winning too many fans

Liverpool started quickly, and United fans were fearing the worst:
From what I've seen so far, Liverpool are playing against some red cones…

But the comeback was on, after Martial stuck away a spot kick:
Deafening from #mufc fans. Ferguson smiling. 1-0 to #mufc. Martial emphatic penalty after he was fouled by Clyne.

Liverpool needed a response, and this guy wasn’t happy with a certain Brazilian:
Get Coutinho off at half time. Poor.

Before the same man equalised with a stunning effort:
If anyone can see which way Coutinho went, could they let Varela know? #MUFCvLFC

Even Kevin Keegan (OK it might not be the KK) was impressed:
Coutinho's goal at Old Trafford was superb. I hadn't seen a defender look so hopelessly lost since I watched Inception with Steven Taylor.

Marouane Fellaini was receiving the usual amount of stick:
Massive groan and frustration as Fellaini wheeled around with the turning circle and pace of the QE2

And so was Louis van Gaal:
When your already 2-0 down from first leg and your 3 subs are 2 full backs and a holding midfielder!! You wonder where 250mil has gone!

Liverpool hung on to knock van Gaal out, and this tweet summed up Man United perfectly:
Man Utd just make me feel a little bit sad these days. It's like watching a once mighty boxer pissed, overweight, and living off his name.

Never mind, Louis, maybe you can win the Europa League next year…
