Jose Mourinho began life at Manchester United earlier this week, as the dreaded pre-season training started.

In case you weren’t aware, pre-season is the worst part of the season for any footballer, as shuttle runs and fitness work replaces shooting drills and set piece practice – though for Harry Kane, it might be a better idea to start that right away.

Every manager works their squad hard, but Mourinho might not have to work Anthony Martial too much, if the Frenchman’s holiday workout is anything to go by.

Martial, a summer signing last season, has been in constant action since leaving France for Manchester, making 49 appearances for his new club.

He then played for his country in the European Championships, before finally enjoying a well earned holiday.

But the 20-year-old hasn’t stopped working, and has posted a workout video from a sunny beach which includes some very sweaty running and painful looking crunches.

Now then, if I was on a beach like that, the only reason I’d be running is if there was an ice cream van at the other end.

Martial is clearly keeping himself in shape though, as competition for places at Old Trafford heats up.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are all in the hunt for first team places, and Marcus Rashford will be hoping to build on a dream first season.

It’s clear that despite his massive price tag, Martial isn’t taking his place for granted, and Mourinho will surely be impressed.
