Surprise, surprise, the New England Patriots walked away from the 2019 Super Bowl victorious, with Tom Brady leading the pack of the way to a tight win.
After the Philadelphia Eagles enjoyed their rare year in the sun, the Patriots returned to form with a 13-3 win over the LA Rams, in a battle hard fought.
For Quarterback, Tom Brady, it was his ninth Super Bowl and the sixth time he’s tasted a Patriot championship win.
It didn’t take long for Marvel fans to notice Brady’s accomplishment of achieving six Super Bowl rings mirrored another pop culture moment of the 21st century.
People were quick to point out the number six had cropped up before in a battle for success and world domination.
Namely, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s evil villain Thanos and his hunt for the six Infinity Stones to fill his gauntlet and carry out his evil population control mission.
In case you missed it, the narrative goes a little something like this: Thanos was born on Saturn’s moon Titan as the son of Eternals A’lars and Sui-San.
After a difficult childhood – his mum tried to kill him – Thanos gave up his pacifism for nihilism and a fascination with death.
Upon the destruction of his home, Thanos created the Infinity Gauntlet to yield the six stones which give him power over the universe, and he obliterates half the population – including SPOILER Spidey – to dust.
After Brady accepted his sixth ring on February 3 at the 2019 Super Bowl in Atlanta, Marvel fans took to the online realm to draw – literally – the comparison.
It was Thanos who once said:
I know what it’s like to lose. To feel so desperately that you’re right, yet to fail nonetheless. Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives. Or should I say, I have.
Or was it Brady? He ignored his destiny once. He cannot do that again.
One fan even pointed out Brady could defeat Thanos with all of those jewels. Wouldn’t that just be the best fourth wall-breaking plot twist to the MCU’s narrative no one saw coming?
Meanwhile, the first full trailer for Avengers: Endgame dropped and everyone needs to know how the partly dusted gang are going to reverse the irreversible after Thanos ceased their existence with a snap of his be-gloved fingers.
