Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have been talking their way around the Octagon for months, and fans are starting to wonder whether they will ever step inside to fight.

The rumour mill has been churning out wild speculation about the impending fight of the century, and everyone has dropped their two cents in, from Dana White to the sports media.

While McGregor continues to throw verbal jabs at his prospective opponent, Mayweather’s latest retort told Notorious to ‘take care of your business with the UFC and then have your people get in touch with my people.’

But its a conversation that occurred behind closed doors between Money and Freddie Roach that reveals the most about the chances of us witnessing a sparring match between the two titans.

Roach, the highly-regarded boxing coach, told The MMA Hour:

About two and a half, three months ago he came by my gym twice for some reason, I don’t know why he came by my gym, but he was very nice.

We had a good conversation, but he told me that he was retired and he wasn’t going to fight again.

But he said, ‘if that Conor McGregor comes to the table, that one I will fight.’

Roach added that he’d put his money on Mayweather, although ‘[McGregor] throws, he throws hard and he’s not afraid to throw’.

Mayweather has been retired since 2015. Fans eagerly await his potential return.
