He might be taking a break from fighting four times in one year, but Conor McGregor certainly has no plans on remaining quiet.
The first ever two-division UFC Champion said he’d be resting until after the birth of his first child, and to negotiate his position with the world’s leading MMA promotion, but that hasn’t stopped him antagonising the rest of the fight roster.
He sent out the following tweet earlier this week highlighting his current status:
And ‘The Notorious’ has already had a nibble from his social media fishing.
Nate Diaz has headed online to reply precisely as you’d expect he would…
Diaz and McGregor are currently one fight apiece after two welterweight bouts, and Diaz is not about to let the Irishman forget that.
In their first meeting at UFC 196 the Stockton fighter stepped in at short notice to replace the injured Rafael Dos Anjos, and forced McGregor to tap out.
Mystic Mac levelled the score by decision at 202, and it’s widely anticipated they will fight again to complete the trilogy.
He went on to make history against Eddie Alvarez at Madison Square Garden, adding the lightweight belt to his featherweight strap.
And despite Diaz claiming McGregor did nothing but run in the second fight there are probably some moments the American fighter should also probably not ‘forget’.
With the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov already declaring their interest in squaring off with McGregor it remains to be seen when we’ll see Diaz step into the Octagon with the Irishman again – but it’s certainly a fight we want to see.
