Nate Diaz stunned the world with a shock victory over UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor at UFC 196.
The man from Stockton has been engaged in a bitter war of words ever since stepping in to fight McGregor in place of Rafael dos Anjos, but he lived up to his word at the MGM grand.
It took two rounds in the octagon for Diaz to dispatch ‘The Notorious’ via rear-naked choke, and it took the world by surprise. Check it out:
McGregor was supposed to fight RDA at 155lbs, but jumped a second class to take on Diaz at 170lbs.
The Irishman had stated weight didn’t matter to him, but with the desire to become the UFC’s first champion in two divisions simultaneously he will have to consider his next opponent carefully.
It seems unlikely having lost a welterweight bout that McGregor will be able to justify demanding a title shot at Robbie Lawler.
Fighting a recovered RDA for the lightweight title could still be on the table, or McGregor may opt to allow Jose Aldo a rematch for the featherweight belt.
Who knows though, perhaps the outspoken Dubliner may want an immediate rematch with Diaz – although in which division remains to be seen.
