People Spotted Huge Problem With Justin Timberlake’s Super Bowl Show

Some people are not happy about Justin Timberlake’s half time Super Bowl performance.

During the half time show on Sunday, February 4, Justin performed Prince’s ‘I Would Die 4 U’ and a video of Prince singing the 1984 classic was projected on a screen.

This was to honour the late singer, who died in April 2016, as the Super Bowl was taking place in his home town.

While many people in the crowd applauded the tribute, others pointed out Timberlake had a supposed ‘feud’ with the music legend.

But back in 2007, JT took a dig at Prince in the song ‘Give It to Me’, which he features in alongside Nelly Furtado and Timbaland.

The lyrics read:

We missed you on the charts last week. Damn, that’s right you wasn’t there. Now if se-sexy never left, then why is everybody on my s**t?.

Don’t hate on me just because you didn’t come up with it.

So if you see us in the club, go on and walk the other way, ’cause our run will never be over, not at least until we say.

While the song doesn’t directly mention Prince,  it was seemingly obvious.

The year before, at a post-Emmy party, (and clearly referencing Timberlake’s song ‘Sexy Back’) Prince said:

For whoever is claiming that they are bringing sexy back, sexy never left!

Their supposed falling out took a step further in the wrong direction when JT was handing out the award for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes in 2017.

Prince won, but was unable to attend, so Justin, poking fun at Prince’s height, offered to ‘accept the award on his behalf’.

As part of the tribute the surrounding city outside of the stadium was lit up in purple.

In the build up to the Super Bowl, there were rumours and criticism about a hologram of Prince performing being used – but this did not happen.

Prince had once said using a hologram to represent a dead artist would be ‘the most demonic imaginable’.

Prince fans weren’t pleased anyway, they felt he’d not have wanted to be honoured in this way and so they headed over to Twitter to vent.

One thing which came from JT’s performance was an unknown star by the name of Ryan McKenna.

Yep, he’s the kid who was captured casually looking down at his phone during the show before taking one of the best selfies ever during Timberlake’s half time performance.

After being given some serious meme treatment today (February 5), 13-year-old Ryan has now spoken about becoming a viral sensation.

Fans loved watching the blonde-haired kid initially ignore the spectacle going down around him.

But Ryan, who got a fantastic selfie with JT told Twin Cities:

It’s been so crazy. I don’t even know what to think. All my friends have been texting me and stuff. It’s insane. My phone is almost dead.

I’ve gotten so many notifications. I’ve got like 36 Snapchats, like 21 DMs and like 150 follower requests on Instagram.

The Super Bowl certainly left plenty to talk about, as usual.
