It seemed to be a week of firsts this week in the Premier League, as we entered the third round of fixtures at the weekend.
It was Bournemouth’s first Premier League points as they won 3-4 at West Ham, Pedro’s debut was marked with a goal and an assist, along with Chelsea’s first win.
Sunderland claimed their first point of the season, and Petr Cech claimed his first clean sheet in an Arsenal shirt.
However, some things just don’t change as the season has continued with Manchester City getting another comfortable victory, as they won 0-2 at Goodison Park.
With that in mind, here is our very attacking team of the week.
Petr Cech
It was difficult not to pick the Arsenal stopper after such a sublime performance, keeping Liverpool at bay for 90 minutes, with some very important saves.
He had a difficult start for the Gunners, but he showed why he was their marquee signing of the summer.
Arsenal fans will be hoping for many more displays like it. Tim Krul was unlucky to miss out here after a stunning display against Manchester United.
Cesar Azpilicueta
Interestingly, despite Chelsea conceding seven goals already this season, none have come from Azpilicueta’s left flank.
He was impressive again in the game at West Brom on Sunday, and even showed his capabilities going forward by chipping in with his goal.
It’s a shame the rest of his defence aren’t living up to this lad’s standards so far this season.
Vincent Kompany
Again, he was a rock at the back for City, and led the back four to yet another clean sheet.
After being maligned this season, it seems that the Manchester City defender is determined to not only restore his reputation but also lead City to the title.
He is a colossus at the back and seems to be bringing the hit and miss Mangala on leaps and bounds as well.
Fabricio Coloccini
It’s a rare day you’ll see Newcastle keep a clean sheet, particularly away to a club like Manchester United.
The Argentinian defender produced a true captain’s performance, unlike John Terry, to guide his side to an impressive draw at Louis van Gaal’s side.
United may have struggled up top, but that was in no small part down to Newcastle’s sublime defending.
Alexander Kolorov
Another clean sheet for the Serbian full-back, and he impressed again.
He maintained his reputation of being an attacking defender too, by chipping in with a goal of his own, albeit Tim Howard will probably be disappointed at getting beat by his near post.
James Morrison
Despite missing a penalty, which would’ve given the Baggies an early lead, he bounced back to score two impressive goals to keep West Brom in with a shout of getting something against Chelsea.
He could have had a hat-trick and to manage to net goals against the Blues, especially that second header, is something special indeed.
A player that will be vital for the Baggies and their hopes for survival.
Jefferson Montero
Another impressive display from the Swansea winger.
Montero gave Sunderland’s Billy Jones a torrid time at full-back, and put countless numbers of balls into the Sunderland area, which his team mates failed to finish off.
He is someone who has given defenders a torrid time this term, and looks set to make a splash on the big stage.
Riyad Mahrez
Is there anything stopping this lad?
He’s on flames at the minute, and marked off another impressive performance, with another incredible goal just after they had fallen behind to Tottenham Hotspur.
He has consistently impressed since the season started and is someone who can hope for a move to a bigger club, and for better things if he carries on like this.
Max Gradel
An outstanding attacking display by Bournemouth was largely down to Gradel.
His pace and trickery caused all sorts of problems for Carl Jenkinson, he won his side a penalty, which Callum Wilson duly slotted away, and he set up Marc Pugh for Bournemouth’s third.
Displays like that will see the club stay in the Premier League, and so they should.
Pedro
A fine debut for the Spanish newcomer.
His desire to win the ball back, and wanting to play at such a high tempo gave Chelsea great opportunities when going forward.
He scored, and set one up in the first half. It was a performance that showed Manchester United what they were missing tenfold.
Chelsea may have lacked a spark in their opening few games, but are certainly impressive with Pedro in their side.
Callum Wilson
Welcome to the Premier League, Callum Wilson.
He’s scored goals in the past couple of seasons for Bournemouth, and Coventry, but few people would’ve expected a hat-trick so early on into his Premier League career.
A brilliant performance earned his side their first points of the season, and showed they are certainly no pushovers.
