So perhaps it’s no surprise that the new Manchester United manager is cutting away some of the dead wood at Old Trafford, with three youngsters set to be shown the door.
GettyTyler Blackett, James Wilson and Will Keane are the unfortunate threesome, who have all been deemed surplus to requirements by Mourinho.
Wilson was once tipped for big things at United and scored on his debut under Ryan Giggs’ temporary reign as manager, but is now set to be moved on after spending last season on loan at Brighton.
Blackett was also on loan, at Celtic, and was once highly rated by Louis van Gaal, but has failed to live up to the initial hype, leading Mourinho to allow the 22-year-old to leave.
GettyKeane has been included in United’s squad to face Borussia Dortmund in China this Friday, but the former England under 21 striker will be allowed to leave, after spending six months of last season on loan at Preston – where he scored one goal in 20 games.
The 22-year-old is on the tour of China as backup to the likes of Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford, who are both included after international duty with England this summer.
GettyZlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the trip, after being granted extra rest after Euro 2016, despite Sweden being eliminated before England and Northern Ireland – whose players are included in United’s party.
Looks like Jose doesn’t fancy adding Wilson, Blackett or Keane to the list of 49 players he’s brought through to senior football…
