England’s substitutes came up trumps, as Daniel Sturridge struck a last gasp winner as England beat Wales to go top of Group B.
Gareth Bale scored a brilliant free kick to give the Welsh the lead, but some attacking substitutions by Roy Hodgson provided England with the firepower to get back in it.
Jamie Vardy scored the equaliser for the Three Lions, before Sturridge scored a late winner to claim the points for England.
As ever, Twitter was equally as brilliant as the game itself, and provided some excellent moments throughout the 90 minutes of Anglo-Welsh rivalry:
Here’s the best of the reaction:
Roy Hodgson opted to keep Jamie Vardy on the bench, which annoyed plenty:
What! No Vardy AGAIN! Hodgson clearly wants to get out of Europe even more than Nigel Farage. #novardy #ENGWAL #EURO2016 NF.

There's a reason No Vardy is trending right now! pic.twitter.com/rt0pLkCyMA

When the action began, there was a fair bit of excitement when Wayne Rooney lined up England’s first corner:
Harry Kane is off corners.
We are going to win the Euro's.#ENGWAL— Ashley Whiteway (@ashley_whiteway) June 16, 2016
Twitter temporarily breaks as everyone tweets about Harry Kane being taken off corners. #ENG #WAL

England started well, but Raheem Sterling missed a sitter:
Impressive running by Sterling….kicking still an issue #ENGWAL
— Peter Finch (@PeterFinchGolf) June 16, 2016
Vardy woulda scored #ENGWAL
— Robert Beasley (@1RobBeasley) June 16, 2016
And some people were struggling as they bunked off work:
My stream is so far behind that Gazza has just put Colin Hendry on his arse and volleyed past Andy Goram. Sort it out @BBCSport #ENGWAL
— Con. (@iamconnaugh) June 16, 2016
Why is it every time there’s a big football match on, the rugby fans pop up?
If a rugby player walked past the ref like dele Ali just did he'd be put back in his place #norespect #ENGWAL

The commentary team of Robbie Savage and Martin Keown wasn’t going down well either:
Not sure I can take another hour of Keown and Savage's bollocks.#EnglandvsWales

But then it all livened up when Gareth Bale smashed a 35-yard free kick past Joe Hart:
¡¡¡¡GAREEEEEEEEEEEEEETH!!!! ¡OTRA VEZ! #TogetherStronger pic.twitter.com/Rx4dLcJyEf
— Guтı (@David_Guti) June 16, 2016
I just asked Joe Hart what happened for Gareth Bale's goal. He said not now, James.

Hodgson turned to Vardy at half-time, and the Leicester City striker’s fairytale continued:
Party time. #Vardy #ENGWAL #lcfc

1 – Ashley Williams has set up 1 more England goal than Raheem Sterling in the past year. Assisting.

Not happy with a point, Hodgson continued his attacking mentality by throwing on Marcus Rashford:
Rashford is now England's youngest ever player at the #Euros. What a season. What a player.
— UNILAD Football (@UNILADFooty) June 16, 2016
Wonder what odds you'd have got a year ago on an England front three of Sturridge, Vardy and Rashford playing at Euro 2016. 75 mins 1-1
— Oliver Kay (@OliverKayTimes) June 16, 2016
But then, Daniel Sturridge won it for England with seconds remaining:
YES DANIEL! Played out of position but who cares? BLOODY BRILLIANT! #EURO2016
— Andrew Gaffney (@GaffneyVLC) June 16, 2016
Sturridge is a class act! Well played Roy Hodgson! Great substitutions.
— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) June 16, 2016
Jamie Vardy on at half time – scores
Daniel Sturridge on at half time – scoresRoy Hodgson – *Genius*
— Archie Rhind-Tutt (@archiert1) June 16, 2016
So Roy’s boys won it thanks to the super subs, and now go into their game against Slovakia in full control of Group B – bring on the world.
