You may not be surprised to learn that sports lovers will spend over a year and a half of their lives watching sports down the pub.

According to a new poll of 2,000 sports fans, the six in 10 who watch their favourite sport in the pub will commit over 19 hours each month watching sports at their local.

Over the course of the average adult lifetime, this adds up to a staggering 13,929 hours spent watching sports over a pint. An enjoyable and quintessentially British pastime for many.

Indeed, 64 per cent felt watching sports down the pub is the next best thing to actually being at the stadium. Over half agreed there is ‘something special’ about watching major sporting event at a bustling British boozer.

This research was conducted by Currys PC World as they launch a competition to find a cricket-named pub which could benefit from a Samsung ‘tech make-over’ ahead of the Cricket World Cup, beginning on Thursday May, 30.

Head of category for TV and Imaging, Henrik Schmidt, said:

Watching sports in the pub is one of life’s truly great pleasures, whether your team wins, loses or you’re just there for the atmosphere.

We’ve got a busy summer of sport coming up, including the next cricket series, and want to ensure the nation enjoy the events with the best TV viewing experience possible.

One out of five wished their pub had more sports screens, with half thinking their pub would be improved by higher quality displays and TVs.

A further 21 per cent wanted to be able to enhance the audio in the pub with the help of top quality surround sound speakers.

Schmidt continued:

Due to the busy summer of sport, Currys PC World and Samsung are opening a competition to find a cricket pub that needs a little updating and deserves to be teched-out, ensuring it’s the ultimate place to watch sport next month.

Tuffers explains below:

To be in with a chance of winning, cricket buffs need to nominate their local cricket-named pub for a full tech update, including Samsung QLED TV’s and Qseries soundbars.

You can make your nomination on either the Currys PC World Facebook or Twitter competition post, making sure to write the pub name and location.

Cricket legend Phil Tufnell will assist with teching-out the winning pub on May 29. He will also be available to chat with the landlord and pub regulars, sharing his two cents on the cricket season ahead. Lovely stuff.
