So here’s something great: a 17-year-old by the name of Red Gerard – maybe the best name to ever grace an athletic platform – overslept after a Netflix binge, rushed to his event and still bagged an Olympic gold medal.
Gerard had dozed off watching an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Saturday night and slept through his alarm.
Thankfully a mate woke him up, helped him find a coat after discovering his jacket was missing and legged it for the slopes.
Red Gerard said he got a Snapchat this morning around 8:30 a.m. from his group of 17 people that is in Pyeongchang, South Korea to support him for the Games: "They were all shotgunning beers on the way to the mountains." pic.twitter.com/JORk5m3pH5

The Colorado teen won the United States’ first gold medal of this year’s Winter Olympics in South Korea.
He was awarded a combined score of 87.16 out of 100 for his three snowboarding runs, earning the top spot over Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot.
Reacting to the brilliant news, Gerard yelled ‘holy f*ck’ on live TV. The amazement was mutual it seems.
So, @NBCOlympics aired snowboarding on delay and still couldn’t delete the “holy f*ck” after Red Gerard won. #NBCdelayed #NBColympics #olympics pic.twitter.com/Z8sct2t8Qo

Gerard is now the youngest American man in the last 90 years to win gold at a Winter Olympics. The last record holder was 16-year-old bobsledder Billy Fiske back in 1928, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Inspiring stuff. Christ, at 17 I don’t think I could even spell Olympics.
