Arsenal Legend Hits Back At Wenger After Being Forced To Leave

Last week, Thierry Henry parted ways with Arsenal after a disagreement over coaching and media work.

Henry was coaching the Gunners under 18 squad, while working part-time with Sky Sports as a pundit, but Arsene Wenger wasn’t happy with the level of commitment the Frenchman was showing to the club, and forced him to choose between responsibilities.

It all resembled a messy break up, but Henry has now moved to clarify his position, and has revealed that he would return to the club in future – though his love for Arsenal does not necessarily translate as love for Wenger.

Henry told The Sun:

Nothing will change my love for Arsenal.

First and foremost, I wasn’t an employee. I was allowed to go and pass my badges there.

This decision was taken months ago, but I guess it came out now because the new season started and I wasn’t there.

I knew I wouldn’t be staying on the following year.

So it’s clear that Henry is still in love with the club where he is such a legend, and also that he always knew he wouldn’t be going back for the upcoming season.

Telling the media he wouldn’t be returning this season would have avoided this whole drama, but there you go…

Henry continued:

I have a current job. In my spare time, for free, I wanted to impart my knowledge and experiences in the game to the youngsters, while completing my coaching hours and also gaining knowledge to pass my pro licence.

This is how it is, it was a dilemma that wasn’t really a dilemma.

I have to work. I respect the decision and if I can’t complete my hours there, then I will do it somewhere else. It isn’t an issue.

Henry will undoubtedly be swamped with offers to complete his coaching badges from other clubs, and Watford have apparently already offered their services.

While the former Barcelona striker’s ultimate desire is to return to the Emirates as a manager, Henry is aware he has a long way to go before stepping into management.

He explained:

I would like to manage, but I am far from it.

First and foremost, make sure you have everything, all the badges.

Then we will see.

There’s no doubt Henry will return to Arsenal in some form of coaching capacity in the future, depending on how long Arsene Wenger continues his reign in north London.

Imagine the scenes when Wenger retires and Henry delivers a Premier League title in his first season in management…
