A bodybuilder died minutes after losing his first Muay Thai fight against Singaporean pop act Steven Lim.
32-year-old Pradip Subramanian suffered a cardiac arrest one hour after the scrap in Marina Bay Sands on Saturday.
He died at around 1pm UK time.
His death was confirmed by Asia Fighting Championship, who revealed he was rushed to Singapore General Hospital after being helped out of the ring.
AFC said in a statement:
According to the preliminary medical report released by Singapore General Hospital, Mr Pradip Subramanian suffered a cardiac arrest respiratory failure episode which led to his passing.
Tragically Subramanian took the fight on a whim after replacing Singapore Idol contestant Sylvester Sim at short notice after Sim pulled out due to insurance issues.
Taking to Facebook, 41-year-old opponent Lim posted a tribute message.
He wrote:
Rest in Peace, my really truly respected fearless warrior and fighter and awesome boxing instructor, Pradip Subramanian!!!
Both fighters had signed a pre-match form which acknowledged the risks that could arise following the fight.
Police are investigating his passing as unnatural.
A final medical report is due to be released in 30 to 60 days.
