Tyson Fury’s fall from grace has been one of the most publicised in boxing history.
Fury worked his way to the top of the heavyweight boxing world, taking out everybody that stood in his way, climaxing when he unanimously tore apart a Wladimir Klitschko who had been the top tier of the heavyweight division for over 10 years.
But Fury’s talent was never given the publicity his exceptional and unstoppable boxing prowess deserved – the publicity he was given was for countless controversial comments.
Now, in the quiet before the storm that will be the Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko fight later this evening, Fury has published a letter to his fans revealing how sorry he is for the past and speaking out about his battle with depression.
The heartbreaking letter reads:
Letter to everyone. I have had the height of success in my life and the lowest of lows to the point of not wanting to live.
Waking up in the morning sad that I didn’t pass away in the night. I hit the drink and drugs trying to find a way out. But it didn’t help.
I ballooned in weight. Was very sad every day for almost two years. But with the help of God I have made a massive turn around.
When Fury fought Klitschko back in 2015, he was the rank outsider fighting in Klitschko’s back yard.
However he upset the odds and was victorious by numerous points, picking up the WBA, WBO, IBF, The Ring and IBO titles for the win making him heavyweight champion of the world.
But Fury’s success was short lived and he was forced to relinquish his belts in 2016 after announcing mental health problems were hurting his boxing career.
The letter, posted to Twitter, continued:
Back training on a mission to put the record straight. I want to make my family, friends, and fans proud again. I’m sorry I let everyone down. It will never happen again.
If I can change and beat my demons so can you. I’m living proof anyone can come through the worst times in our lives, no matter what we must battle through.
All help and love each other. I’m hear to help others like they helped me.
All the best, your champ, Tyson2fastFury.
Tyson, good luck on your mission to turn yourself around.
Hopefully, no matter what the outcome of tonight’s fight, Fury can get back into the ring and prove, yet again, that when it comes to boxing he is a real competitor.
