It’s hard to understand why people willingly choose to put their bodies through such trauma, but millions tune in to watch athletes push themselves to the absolute limit.
That’s something which Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone knows only too well after his lightweight UFC 238 fight against Tony Ferguson had to be stopped.

Cerrone suffered a broken nose during the Chicago fight, which sounds pretty traumatic in itself but things went from bad to worse for the Cowboy when he tried to blow his nose to loosen some of the congealed blood between rounds.
But, in clearing the blockage, Cerrone caused his right eye to swell shut after it had also taken a huge blow earlier in the fight, and it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted.
Despite wanting to rally on, a doctor ruled Cerrone was unable to continue and Ferguson was crowned the winner by technical knock out, because let’s face it, he was never going to achieve much with just 50 per cent vision, and only being able to breathe through his mouth.
PA ImagesFans booed when the Fight of the Night was called to an end and both Cerrone and Ferguson apologised for the way in which the match came to an end.
Ferguson was already 2-0 up on most accounts after just two rounds, before the third round was prevented from going ahead.
Both fighters spoke highly of each other after the battle came to an end, and eventually the boos began to subside, and fans gave the men the reception their high intensity fight deserved.
Ferguson also used his platform to call out Conor McGregor, insisting he wanted the winner of the undisputed lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier.
Fair play, the Cowboy took it on the chin like a true sportsman, but let’s hope he rests up before attempting to get back in the Octagon any time soon.
