Screen-acting legend, Meryl Streep put her talent to good use at the Golden Globes, using the platform to lay down a few home truths to the people of America.

The 30-time Golden Globe nominee and Cecil B. DeMille award recipient spread a message of respect and unity, declaring the importance of diversity across the board and within the film industry.

Streep unloaded on Trump’s ‘performance’ which openly mocked a disabled journalist… but Donald Trump wasn’t the only target of the 67-year-old actor’s glorious and much-praised oration of love.

In her ploy to champion the creative industries, Meryl jokingly took a stab at the multi-billion American televised sports industries, football and MMA, enjoyed by athletes and Americans on a daily basis.

Streep joked:

Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners and if we kick them all out you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts… Which are not the arts.

With these sorts of public jibes, maybe Meryl is more in tune with the punch-swinging, tough-talking UFC game than she might’ve thought.

Never a crowd to back down from an insult – whether in good jest or not – the MMA industry has responded accordingly.

True to form, Dana White jabbed back at Meryl on Twitter.

Advertising the upcoming Rodriguez/Penn fight, and football for good measure, White let Meryl know she could watch some quality displays of athleticism for free on her TV this weekend…

Taking the more mature root, the official UFC Facebook page responded to Meryl’s plea for more racial diversity and acceptance with a simple message.

They proudly shared a photo montage of their five champions, hailing from Poland, America, Ireland, Brazil and the UK.

UFC is a global sport that accepts competitors exclusively on the basis of their talent – and their ability to finish an argument.

While Meryl’s comments were obviously delivered in jest, you can bet UFC fans will be dining out on her tangent for weeks.
