The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organisation, with fights taking place worldwide.

What is UFC, when did it start, what does UFC stand for, what sport is UFC?

UFC is an MMA fight organiser, which brings together some of the world’s top performing mixed martial artists for matches. It was founded in 1993 and stands for ‘Ultimate Fighting Championship’. It comprises a combat sport using mixed martial arts techniques, such as Muay Thai and kickboxing.

How much is UFC worth, how much do fighters make?

It was sold in 2016 for $4 million. Fighters are paid individually, with the highest performing fighters paid more. Forbes predicted the top UFC earners in 2017 to be Ronda Rousey, who was predicted to earn between $10 million to $15 million for one fight, Georges St-Pierre with between $10 million to $20 million for two fights, and Conor McGregor, predicted to earn anywhere between $15 million and a whopping $100 million for one fight alone.

How much did Conor McGregor make in UFC 205, did he win it, what is it?

Conor McGregor earned the fight purse of $3 million after winning his UFC 205 match against Eddie Alvarez. The mixed martial arts event, held at Madison Square Gardens in Manhattan, New York, was described by the UFC president as ‘the biggest fight card’ in UFC history. As well as other fights that night, the evening was headlined by the champion versus champion pairing of McGregor and Alvarez. The match was only the second time in the event’s history that champions in different divisions fought for the same title, with featherweight champion McGregor challenging lightweight champion Alvarez for his title. Conor won the bout to become the event’s first ever fighter to hold two simultaneous titles.

Most fighters have trained for years in their various disciplines, branching out to include other martial arts disciplines. As well as physical training in the sport, fighters often follow strict diet and lifestyle guidelines. Fighters tend to have excellent win records with their smaller gyms before applying, or joining a larger gym in the hopes that they will be discovered or invited. Fighters train in strength, stamina, and discipline. As well as sparring and wrestling, exercise such as yoga is practiced for stability. The time spent on various types of training can add up to around five to six hours a day, six days a week.

UFC had several founders, namely Art Davie, Bob Meyrowitz, Campbell McLaren, John Milius, and Rorion Gracie. In 2016, it was purchased by the William Morris Endeavor company for $4million.
