English football legend Steven Gerrard appears to throw a punch at a bloke during a street bust-up captured on CCTV, The Sun reports.

The incident – which took place on August 2013 – shows the ex-Liverpool player appearing to aim a thump at Paul Lloyd as an argument spills out on to the pavement.

A court heard previously that the LA Galaxy midfielder was trying to defuse the situation, but the video seems to show Gerrard clashing with hotel owner Lloyd, 35.

The Sun On Sunday obtained the footage of the pair arguing outside Woodward’s Winebar, in Liverpool’s upmarket Formby area. The video was not shown at the subsequent trial where Gerrard was portrayed by prosecutors as a peacemaker.

Gerrard can be seen with wife Alex, and a group of around 10 people on CCTV apparently confronting Lloyd. An argument seems to erupt and Gerrard is held back by members of the group before appearing to throw a punch at the hotel boss.

He is then seen to apparently throw another punch towards Lloyd’s face before he is dragged away by two men. Gerrard can also be seen grappling with Lloyd and apparently holding him against a wall.

At the time of the apparent fight, Gerrard was the England captain running up to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and spoke of the importance of respecting the Three Lions captaincy.

Merseyside Police took no action against Gerrard for the incident after they reviewed the evidence with the CPS.
