Arsene Wenger seems to have reached peak Wenger-ness, after news of his latest transfer activity emerged.
The Arsenal boss has been chasing a striker and a defender all summer, but has so far failed in his attempts to capture a big name – so the likes of Takuma Asano and Rob Holding don’t count.
So, when Gunners fans learned that their side were finally closing in on a £17 million striker, they were naturally excited.
But all is not what it seems.

Wenger is closing in on Lucas Perez, the Deportivo La Coruna striker, and fans have kicked off because they’ve never heard of him.
And, because it’s Arsenal, those fans took to Twitter to voice their discontent.
Some questioned Perez’s ability, compared to some of Arsenal’s other targets:

Others were brutally honest:
Absolutely no idea who Lucas Pérez is. Seen one video on here of him smashing in a volley. That's literally it.

Not going to lie I had no idea about Lucas Perez. Didn't even know he existed. Wenger's pulled off a madness.

Who the hell is Lucas Perez? I thought Wenger only buys 'super quality' screams of yet another stop gap signing

But Arsenal look to have beaten Everton to the signing of the 27-year-old, and others were trying to stay positive:
The soundtrack on Lucas Perez's YouTube compilation is superb. Sign him up.

And others used their expert knowledge of social media to all but confirm the deal:
Lucas Perez has just started following Atom and Humber on Instagram

However, this guy gave us all a glimpse into the future, and it’s hard to disagree with his estimation:
July 2017. Wenger is asked if he will bid for unsettled Griezmann:
"Look we have Lucas Perez who will be like a new signing when he is fit."— David Verry (@dnverry) August 25, 2016
To be fair, Arsenal fans can’t be blamed for kicking off at this, after being linked with a host of top class strikers over the summer months.
Never mind Gooners, Asano and Perez could turn out to be the new Henry and Bergkamp.
