Adebayo Akinfenwa closed the latest chapter of his career with a goal at Wembley, as AFC Wimbledon earned promotion to League One, before revealing the club would not be extending his deal.

The hulking forward then issued a come and get me plea to any interested parties, suggesting they hit him up via Whatsapp.

Well, there appears to be one interested party, just one nobody was expecting – the WWE.

The world’s largest pro-wrestling promotion hinted they may be in line to respond to Bayo’s call, after they simply quoted the big man and added a phone emoji…

Akinfenwa wouldn’t even be the first man to swap life on the pitch for life in the square circle.

Former German international goalkeeper Tim Wiese made the transition back in 2014.

Wiese was offered a development contract with WWE off-shoot NXT.

Unlike the six-foot-three keeper, Akinfenwa would already be carrying the necessary muscle. Wiese bulked up dramatically after being released by Hoffenheim.

Wiese was not the only keeper to catch the eye of wrestling scouts either.

Burton Albion’s former man between the posts Stuart Tomlinson also joined the ranks at NXT, although now he goes by the name Hugo Knox.

Stranger things have definitely happened.

Plus, ‘Beast Mode’ already sounds like the perfect finisher move for Akinfenwa…
