EmojipediaGingers around the world can celebrate now they’re finally going to be included in emoji options.
After years of campaigning, red-heads are finally being listened to by the bigwigs of the technology world, the Telegraph reports.
Apparently, according to those that know down at Emojipedia (yes, that’s a thing,) a plan has been put forward to the ‘Emoji Subcomittee,’ outlining what the ginger emojis would look like.
Our flame-haired friends have been demanding their rights be respected for years, complaining that ‘gingerism’ and ‘prejudice’ against their vibrant hair-colour has been rife.

The lack of a redhead emoji has been the most frequent complaint from Emojipedia users in the past three months.
This document aims to move the discussion forward on how this can be addressed.
Apparently, YouTuber and campaigner for red-head’s rights, CopperCab has spoken out passionately about this new move.

I STRONGLY feel it’s important that minority groups such as gingers are represented via emojis, because emojis are quite literally the fastest growing language in human history, and it’s being used globally.
No matter where you’re from, or where you’re going… You’re guaranteed to come across emojis… and everyone understands them.
Everybody deserves an emoji, and I’m BEYOND HAPPY that the tech companies have FINALLY made the right decision, by providing us with ginger emojis.
This will do great things for young redheaded kids who may be getting bullied for the colour of their hair, because it will make it more normal for people to come across redheads now, like… in their phones.”

Change.orgApparently, according to the proposal, the emojis could extend to a man and a woman with ginger hair, or it could go as far as to include a ginger dancer, or perhaps red-head version of the ‘facepalm’ emoji.
Unfortunately though, a lack of popularity in other people making use of the emoji, the plans could potentially be scuppered as apparently only 1-2% of the world’s population have red hair.
Scottish campaigners are adamant that ginger emojis should be a thing though, having started a petition on change.org to challenge Apple on their selection of characters.
The petition reads:
Redheads. In all their glorious gingerness, they’ve been missed out. Again.
If you say you’re going to diversify, why not add a few red-haired emoji in the mix? Natural redheads may be rare at less than 2% of the world’s population, but that is 138,000,000 iPhones waiting to happen.
They make some fair points.
Fingers crossed for the release of red-head emojis in the near future then, although I don’t think there’ll be a ginger poo one created anytime soon.
