Apple has just made a shocking announcement about something we all pretty much knew was the case anyway…
In a confession doctored to show off their green credentials, the technology giant claimed that their gadgets are only expected to work for between three and four years. Shocker.
The admission comes after years of Apple users speculating about the lifespan of their products, reports the Mirror.
However, the company have reportedly being doing all they can to make their devices more durable.
On a new section of Apple’s website entitled ‘environment’, the company posted:
Years of use, which are based on first owners, are assumed to be four years for OS X and tvOS devices and three years for iOS and watchOS devices.
Until recently, the company only provided software support for an iPhone or iPad for around three years, typically providing two iOS updates from the moment they were released.
But the launch of iOS 8, and then iOS 9, changed all that.
Mac computers, however, remain to have much longer software support lives. The latest version of Apple’s computer software OS X 10.11 El Capitan still supports computers from 2007, despite Apple expecting Mac computers to last only four years.
It all kind of makes you question Apple’s intentions. As one of the world’s largest producers of phones, laptops, and everything else technology, they provide ‘top quality’ products to an audience of millions, and for very high prices.
It really makes you wonder how they could possibly benefit from your top of the range phone dying after just three or four years – forcing you to buy another…
