It is the two-pronged wall plug adapter designed for use in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, continental Europe, New Zealand and South Korea that has come in for scrutiny.
According to the Daily Mail the risk is minimal, with just twelve confirmed incidents worldwide.
AppleA statement from the tech giant is reported a saying ‘Because customer safety is the company’s top priority, Apple is asking customers to stop using affected plug adapters’.
To check whether or not you have an adapter that is at risk you should turn the power off at the wall before investigating.
If on the inside slot where the adapter attaches to the main power unit there is four, five, or no characters, then you may be at risk of getting zapped at some stage.
AppleAs you’d expect them to, Apple are offering exchanges for the affected adapters.
In order to receive an exchange you must be able to produce a valid serial number for whatever Apple product you are using the adapter with. This could be a Mac, iPhone, iPod, or iPad.
If you live in, or bought your product within the UK, United States, Canada, China, Hong Kong, or Japan, then you shouldn’t be affected. But there is no harm in checking if you’re worried.
