Apple Watch 2 could come with a host of new sensors according to a new research note released to investors today.
In a research note released to investors today, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple is likely to include a host of new sensors, GPS, barometer, improved waterproofing, a larger battery and a faster processor.
Kuo is well connected and usually very accurate when it comes to Apple predictions, however, we’re still taking it all with a pinch of salt. No doubt those improved features would be welcomed by fitness fanatics.
Apple Watch 2 could be faster, safer for outdoor sports and feature a bigger battery
Having a GPS sensor means users will be able to track their training routes, track areas where they’re working hard the most and when used in combination with other sensors, could generate more accurate distance and speed data.
Microsoft already included a barometer sensor in the Band 2 and Apple doing the same would be a great addition. Using a barometer, you’ll be able to detect changes in atmospheric pressure to determine the vertical distance traveled.
Elsewhere, Kuo claims that Apple won’t change the size and thickness of the Apple watch. If true, it makes it easier for Apple to increase battery capacity as there’d be space to integrate a bigger battery.
As for when the new Apple Watch 2 – if called that at all – will be coming to market, Kuo believes the new Apple Watch will debut in the second half of 2016.
Are you excited to see a new Apple watch? Having a GPS and barometer sensor would definitely sway us to buying the next Apple Watch.
