Apple are reportedly replacing the batteries of iPhones even if they’re in ‘perfect condition’.
It comes after news broke at the end of 2017 stating the tech giant purposefully slows down old iPhone models, to ‘push people into buying newer models’.
Apple was also reported to have been hit by ‘several lawsuits’ in the process.
The company issued an apology to customers and said it would cut the price of battery replacement services.
The discount was intended for ‘anyone with an iPhone 6 or later, whose battery needs to be replaced’, writes Daily Dot.
Although it might sound like a great benefit, people were left confused by the memo – with several iPhone users saying their devices were ‘rejected’ after passing diagnostic tests at the stores Genius Bars.
To avoid even more backlash, Apple will now reportedly replace the battery of ‘any iPhone 6 or newer model’, even if it passes the diagnostic test determining whether a device can hold ’80 percent of its original battery capacity after 500 complete charging cycles’.
This would mean iPhone X owners can get a battery replacement for just $29.
Apple were in the news a lot during December as they confirmed the news they ‘slow down previous models in order to extend their lifespan by saving battery life’.
As batteries age they become less effective but many users were unhappy with the claims, believing the company actually wants to force people to upgrade their phones.
In their statement last week, Apple admitted:
Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, [when they] have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.
Last year, we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting during these conditions.
We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2 and plan to add support for other products in the future.

Now the firm is facing eight different lawsuits with one seeking an astonishing $999 billion.
All the lawsuits have been filed in different federal courts over the past week, with customers complaining about the company’s lack of transparency and deliberate hindering of their phones’ performance.
People are also alleging Apple attempted to conceal the battery issue rather than offer up a solution to such an easy replacement.
Although it’s currently unclear how successful these lawsuits will be, as long as legal ongoings continue, Apple will be using their best lawyers to attempt to provide a strong defence.
People have previously won claims against the company and with decent attorneys, these lawsuits may have a chance?
