Blue Raspberry Mic Review

By :

The Blue Raspberry Mic is the perfect tool for podcasting, voiceover, YouTube and music. Raspberry gives you professional results anywhere you go and it is also a stylish home/studio accessory.

Blue Microphones have been doing microphones for a while now and if you haven’t heard of the Yeti mic, you’ve been living under rocks or just aren’t about having the best sound quality at all.  They are known to provide one of (if not the best) microphone qualities for podcasts and voiceovers, especially amongst YouTubers.

The Raspberry as the name suggests is small and it’s deemed the ultimate portable microphone able to deliver 24-bit studio-quality sound directly to your PC, Mac, iPhone or iPad. Thanks to its new Internal Acoustic Diffuser (IAD) design, you get a result that resembles treatments found in studios and concert halls, because it focuses on your voice or instrument whilst minimising the sound of the room.

The Raspberry is very simple to operate, it’s plug and play so you won’t be going through any lengthy installation process, and it also makes it perfect for quickly popping down on a desk to record something on the go.

Depending on which way it’s facing, you have on one side a 3.5mm port to plug in your headphones, underneath it, a micro USB port where you can connect your laptop or smartphone. On the other side, there’s a spherical indicator light that will let you know if the sound is peaking – you want to aim for a green light here.

On the flat sides, you have the headphone volume control and a mic level/mute control on the other side to help adjust to the right audio levels. Move to the bottom of the Raspberry stand, there’s an adjustable area so you can either detach the mic from its stand or rotate as needed. There’s a mic stand adaptor in the box, so you could mount it however you want.

The Raspberry is designed to capture sound the best way possible; you can adjust its gain up to +40dB and whether you’re using it for Skype or Podcasting, it just works really well for such a portable microphone. Room or outside noise is significantly minimised with the Internal Acoustic Diffuser under the grill-like design – it’s designed to resemble that of professional studios and concert halls.

Overall, the Raspberry is beautifully designed; I like the mixture of the leather-like design in red and the silver colourway. It’s not just a piece of kit that looks good, but it actually performs really well too and I can’t really fault it.
