A couple of decades ago, fingerprint recognition was the sort of eye popping technology only read about in Dan Brown novels.
And yet many of us will now use fingerprint technology to access our smartphones and get into our offices, without necessarily being an evil genius.
Trials for biometric authentication credit cards have been conducted since 2015, but this sort of technology has only just begun to be applied to your regular old bank card.
The NatWest bank is now trialling a new bank card complete with a built-in fingerprint scanner. The trial will commence in mid-April, with 200 customers getting the chance to try it out.
Unlike the now widely used contactless payment, the standard £30 limit will not apply to this method of payment, as reported by The Verge.
The tech was developed by Dutch company, Gemalto, who believe this card ‘simplifies the consumer experience at the point of sale and makes it faster and safer’, The Guardian reports.
Unlike with Apple Pay or Google Pay, users will need to go to their bank to try out the card and won’t be able to make payments from home.
