Experts Cast Doubt Over Bitcoin ‘Creator’s’ Claims

Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright claimed earlier today to be the secretive creator of Bitcoin – but people are already doubting him mere hours later.

Due to the encryption baked into Bitcoin, Forbes claims that we may never really know who actually created the digital currency.

Patrick McKenzie, CEO of a recruitment agency for programmers, has been especially vocal in casting doubts over Wright’s claim:

McKenzie accused Wright of “flimflam and hokum which stands up to a few minutes of cursory scrutiny, and demonstrates a competent sysadmin’s level of familiarity with cryptographic tools, but ultimately demonstrates no non-public information about Satoshi [the Bitcoin creator’s screen name].”

So, basically, anyone even half good at programming could have made the same claims as Chris Wright. Being the creator of Bitcoin would certainly be great for the entrepreneur’s CV and his announcement has definitely generated a lot of press today (which never hurts an entrepreneur).

Even The Economist cast doubt over whether Wright created Bitcoin, despite being one of the three media organisations that he revealed his ‘secret identity’ to:

It’s certainly possible that Wright could have created Bitcoin – but the encrypted nature of the currency makes any sort of proof very complicated. Bitcoin’s very secrecy is what made it so appealing to ‘dark web’ users and got it the tabloid headlines which helped it go mainstream in the first place.

Personally, I’m switching to Coinye West cyrptocurrency until this whole thing blows over.
