Facebook is set to annoy the fuck out of users by allowing businesses to send adverts via Messenger apparently.

The claim has been made by TechCrunch who allegedly got hold of a leaked document outlining the plans.

The document reportedly claims that businesses will be able to message users that have messaged them in the past.

The document also contained information on a URL short link (fb.com/msg/) that allows a chat with a business to be instantly opened up. Facebook apparently confirmed the existence of the link, and it follows the rest of the document would also likely be true.

Facebook told TechCrunch that they don’t comment on speculation, but did say:

Our aim with Messenger is to create a high quality, engaging experience for 800 million people around the world, and that includes ensuring people do not experience unwanted messages of any type.

So really it will come down to your definition of ‘unwanted’.

If you have messaged a business before then I suppose the social network could argue that you opened the line of communication first.

Time will tell how this one plays out, but in the meantime don’t go messaging any businesses that are likely to annoy the living crap out of you in the future with spam.
