Social media pioneers, Facebook, are currently in the process of setting up their own Snapchat styled ‘camera app’ in an attempt to increase their user activity.

Though the site is currently used by over one billion people, 100 million of whom are active every month, the greedy entrepreneurs just want more and more – and who can blame them?

The Wall Street Journal originally reported the news, stating that the stand-alone camera app is currently being developed by Facebook’s ‘friend-sharing’ team in London.

Similar to Snapchat and Periscope, an early version of the app reportedly opens to a camera and allows users to record video on a live stream.

However, this isn’t the first time Facebook have tried to set up a ‘camera app’. No, in fact they’ve tried five times in the past four years alone.

According to The Wall Street Journal, far fewer Facebook users are sharing photos, videos and status updates about their own lives, and this app is merely an attempt to reverse the trend.

It would appear that getting more people as active as they used to be on the site is a growing priority within the company, and the fact that they’re even considering creating a Snapchat / Periscope copycat app merely highlights the growing competitors and rivals that the company faces.

The app is only in its early stages and the developers behind it have admitted that it may never come to fruition.
