The U.S. government is going to pay hackers to try and breach the Pentagon’s security apparently.

The U.S. Department of Defense has announced its first ever ‘cyber bug bounty program’.

The program to hack the pentagon will reportedly open in April with vetted hackers having the chance to win money in recognition of their effort to hack into Department of Defense websites.

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said:

I am always challenging our people to think outside the five-sided box that is the Pentagon. Inviting responsible hackers to test our cybersecurity certainly meets that test. I am confident this innovative initiative will strengthen our digital defenses and ultimately enhance our national security.

Further details on the selection criteria are expected in the coming weeks.

Hopefully this test does in fact improve national security as opposed to letting a madman have access to highly sensitive data.
