Warner Bros.It seems there are some serious Harry Potter fans among the science community.
Researchers at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences have created a new metamaterial which could be used to make a real-life invisibility cloak. Oh, the possibilities.
Researchers found that computer simulations showed it would be a high performance material for light, DNA India reported. Apparently, when light “is incident on the surface of such a material the refracted light is on the same side of the normal to the surface as the incident light”.
Basically, that means this new material will allegedly do a pretty decent job of copying a reflection and whoever wants to be like our good wizard friend would be able to blend in with their surroundings thanks to the manipulation of light.
Sadly, total invisibility is still pretty much impossible for now. Sorry guys.
This isn’t the first time someone has come close either. Last year, researchers at UC Berkeley also created a mega-thin, skin like ‘metasurface’ which could make small objects disappear.
