Honor continues to bring premium features to the masses with the new 5.2 inch Honor 8. It offers a dual-camera, fast processor, dual-sim and more, all for £369.99.
The new Honor 8 is like going to a buffet restaurant, getting all you can eat for your money versus going to a very expensive 5-star restaurant and getting a small plate of food. Both tastes nice, but you leave one of them still feeling hungry.
The New Honor 8 feels premium, it’s sleek and runs buttery smooth
Having said that, though, it doesn’t mean that it feels cheap. It feels nice to hold in hand with glass on both the front and back. For the technical ones out there, the glass on the back is made up of 15 layers of sheets (not glass) and topped with 2.5D glass with aluminium frame for a solid finish.
Honor used something called 3D grating to add that extra premium effect to it and when you shine it under bright light, it becomes more apparent.
Variety of colours available, the white ones is less of a fingerprint magnet
The Honor 8 will be available in the UK in Midnight Black, Pearl White, and the Saphire Blue being the hero color. I quite like the blue one, although fingerprint is not as visible on the Pear White edition.
Borrowing from its sister company, the Honor 8 features a 12-megapixel dual-camera, one for RGB (colours) and the other for monochrome images (BW), combined together, it captures more light and images more accurately.
Similar camera to the Huawei P9
For large aperture, dual ISP is used and you can see that in action when taking pictures in low-light and you can also adjust aperture in preview mode before snapping away or after you’ve taken your picture for that shallow depth of field or bokeh effect.
On the back of the device, there’s a fingerprint sensor which also doubles up as a button which you can customise. You can add functions for a single press, double press or a long press, so for example, you can set it to open Pokemon Go.
Full HD display and a fast processor
Let’s not for it display quality. It’s loaded with a 1080 FHD LCD panel dishing out 423 PPI. It offers a good level of brightness and it adjusts very well to bright light or low light, so you can use it for reading, movies or regular use with no problem.
Under the hood, there’s a Kirin 950 Octa-core processor chip (4 x Cortex A72 2.3GHz + 4 x Cortex A53 1.8 GHz) coupled with 4GB of RAM which means it works very smoothly, UI feels fluid even with EMUI 4.1 overlay on the Android 6.0 it’s loaded with.
Big storage space and USB Type-C
For storage, you get 32GB space out of the box with the option to expand with up to 128gb of microSD card. The sim tray can be used for two sim cards or one sim + sd card combination.
It’s also rocking a USB Type-C port with fast charging support. As if that’s not enough, it comes with 3000 mAh battery, which should last all day.
