Technology is ever evolving and although we love our iPhones and Amazon’s Alexa, there are some things we do miss.

A study commissioned by British Airways surveyed 2,000 adults revealing that making mix tapes, printing photographs and sending love letters are some of the things we miss doing as they have been replaced by technology.

Yes, technology makes life a lot easier but people wish they still had items like portable CD players and encyclopaedias which although heavy and bulky were quietly charming.

We don’t miss everything though as 51 per cent of us are grateful we no longer have to queue up in a post office to buy car tax.

40 per cent meanwhile are also glad they no longer have to buy TV listings to see what is on the box.

Sometimes I wonder about how I would be able to cope without technology so it is no surprise that 54 per cent of us admit it is important they can connect to Wi-Fi when travelling to keep themselves happy.

Carolina Martinoli, from British Airways, said:

Technology and the internet has evolved so much in recent years that tasks we once considered to be regular parts of our day are now done for us online.

The results show us how dependant we have become on the internet and being connected at all times – even while travelling.

The pleasure of making a mix tape is the activity people most miss closely followed by putting together a photo album and recording their favourite films on to VHS.

Having physical photos printed out and the excitement of waiting for a film to be developed before you could see how they turned out completed the top five.

Writing a letter came sixth while sending adorable love letters and postcards followed close behind.

We do enjoy technology though as the study discovered the average adult spends just over four hours every day on the internet with one in five confessing they are never more than a few feet away from an internet-enabled device.

More than one in 10 of those surveyed admitted they would feel lost if they were unable to go online, while 26 per cent would feel completely cut off.
