Ohhh, Mamma Mia, get ready to fasten your seat belts everyone as it’s Mario Time. Wa-hoo!
Beloved gaming character and hero to all, especially Princess Peach, Mario is coming to Google Maps and we couldn’t be more excited.
Earlier today Google announced on their blog that in the latest update of their Google Maps app you can choose to have the Nintendo legend accompany you on your journey.
Available on both iOS and Android, this fabulous and fun update is thanks to a partnership between Google and Nintendo ahead of Mario Day which takes place every year on March 10 (MAR10).
After you type in your destination, a yellow question mark icon will pop up on the bottom right of the app’s screen and by tapping this you will get a prompt to enable ‘Mario Time’.
From then on instead of the normal navigation arrow you will have Mario, naturally driving his trademark red go-kart of course, as your companion for the trip.
To watch the UNILAD Gaming team play Super Mario Odyssey with the voice of Mario himself, watch the video below:

Luckily for us this update won’t just be available on Mario Day but for a whole week so you can have lots of fun with it.
Google wrote about the update on their blog:
We know a true Mario fan when we see one. They hum the Super Mario Bros. background music on repeat, daydream about collecting gold coins and 1-UP mushrooms, and want nothing more than to traverse the Mushroom Kingdom with Luigi, Toad, and Yoshi to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser.
To celebrate our favourite mustachioed plumber-turned-racer on his special day — MAR10 Day — we’ve collaborated with the team at Nintendo to let Mario accompany you on all of your driving adventures on Google Maps this week.
He’ll be a constant companion wherever you’re driving this week—to work, to school, or the spaghetti house.
Just remember to practice safe driving on the road—we don’t encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life!
Ready to take a drive with Mario? He’ll start rolling out on Maps globally today, and will join you on your road trips for a week.
Take a screenshot of your route and share it with @GoogleMaps on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #MarioMaps.
The update is available from today so let’s-a-go!
This isn’t the first time Google have had fun with their Maps app and they have even made references to popular video games in updates before.
Who can forget the time they turned the app into a game of Pac-Man for April Fools’ Day or when fan favourite Link from The Legend of Zelda made an appearance?
You keep doing you, Google!
