As the Golden Globes got underway last night, Samsung were also holding their own ceremony, unveiling what we might be watching next year’s awards on – a TV bigger than most people’s bedroom walls.

On Sunday evening, January 6, the tech giants revealed a 75-inch version of their MicroLED TV, known as ‘The Window’, as well as a humongous 219-inch version, aptly known as ‘The Wall’.

Samsung also confirmed the 75-inch TV will offer 4K UHD resolution, while the 219-inch will have ‘something above 4K’.

Last year, Samsung claimed its MicroLED TVs had practically flawless black levels, similar to OLED and higher contrast screens, according to TechRadar.

MicroLED uses millions of inorganic red, green and blue microscopic LED chips, which emit their own light to produce vivid colours on screen. This is different to OLED, which uses organic elements. However, Samsung claim their inorganic technology can help the TV last longer by eliminating burn in.

As well as the sheer scale of the thing, Samsung’s presentation also demonstrated the idea of their MicroLED televisions being modular, meaning the user can customise the product into various shapes and sizes.

The company is hoping that, in the not too distant future, customers will therefore be able to order custom-sized MicroLED TVs.

So, before you go moving house just to be able to fit your new TV in, you should theoretically be able to order yourself one that fits your wall perfectly. The dream.
