Only one year after Back to the Future, Part 2 predicted their invention, Nike are finally introducing self lacing shoes.
The U.S. based sporting goods giant revealed their amazing self lacing shoe, called the HyperAdapt 1.0, yesterday and they’ll go on sale at the end of 2016, Yahoo report.
The futuristic footwear works using sensors in the heel which activate the lacing when a foot slips into the shoe. If the shoe’s too tight then you can adjust the laces by pressing two buttons on the side of the shoe which loosen or tighten the lacing.
Nike calls the feature ‘adaptive lacing’ and the designer Tinker Hatfield said at the New York presentation that the company is working on other revolutionary innovations that will provide other automatic adjustments.
Last year Nike designed a limited-edition shoe, the Nike Mag, with ‘power laces’ that adapt to the wearer’s motion which were inspired by the film Back to the Future, Part II.
Nike Mag - Nike.comUnfortunately the Nike Mag will only be available via auction in spring of this year so their likely to be quite pricey, although all the proceeds are going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, a non-profit launched by the actor who played Marty McFly in the movie, so your money’s going to a good cause.
Now if only they could finish hover boards…
